About Broadview Village

Here we are in the spring of 2026 and so much has changed since I started with The Salvation Army 10 years ago, and yet much remains the same. Broadview Village has expanded exponentially over the past 10 years with new programs and services geared specifically towards individuals with high needs, a subset of the people we support that is under serviced from the broader system at the best of times. We've added new day program spaces, created an Affirmative Business that we continue to expand to support people with mental health challenges who want to be gainfully employed but require additional ongoing supports, are moving towards evening and weekend supports and overall continuing to push ourselves to be better every day. We are able to do so because of the exceptional staff that I have the honour of working with from my senior leadership team on up to our exceptional frontline staff.

Having said all that however, many things remain the same. We continue to be under financial stress at the hands of the dual pressures of increasing inflation and flat funding sources. We continue to find ourselves in steep competition for staffing with a multiple of other agencies within Toronto both within the developmental sector as well as broader sectors such as health care and education. These latter 2 sectors make our life more challenging indeed because they most often are compensated at higher levels than DSW. We also continue to be challenged by the changing needs of the individuals we support. We are all getting older, and this reality is doubly difficult when you are talking about individuals with developmental disabilities getting older. The tendency is that these individuals age more quickly and experience more chronic health conditions than much of the population. As one can appreciate, these realities, in turn, place additional pressures on the skills and abilities of our staff in their very important role as caregivers and support.
